Jordan Jones hardly took the usual route in his career, signing for Wigan Athletic from Rangers in the summer of 2021, only to be handed a minimal number of minutes before being loaned out to St Mirren.
Wigan hardly took a look at Jones the following pre-season as the forward was sent back out on loan to Scotland, this time with Kilmarnock, although Jones failed to record a single goal in 27 appearances for the club.
Shaun Moloney was appointed Wigan manager in January 2023 and gave Jones a final chance for the Latics in the final year of the winger’s deal with the club.It was a chance that Jones cherished, contributing three goals and nine assists in 26 League One appearances.
Despite an impressive turnaround, Jones still departed the club this summer with Wigan Today suggesting that although Wigan were open to renewing Jones’ deal, the club were working on a reduced budget and couldn’t match the demands of the 29-year-old’s representatives.
“Contract discussions have finished and as disappointed as I am to be leaving I respect the situation the club is in and wish the club success moving forward”.
“I want to thank all the staff, especially the 1st team staff I worked with last season for helping me fall back in love with football.
