‘I’ve stopped pinching myself’ – Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney living the dream as he shares snap with Ryan Reynolds and Eva Longoria
Visits from Hollywood stars haven’t been anything surprising at the SToK Cae Ras since Reynolds and McElhenney’s takeover in 2020. Longoria became the most recent celebrity to make her way to Wales to watch the Red Dragons as she watched Wrexham’s 3-2 opening day win over Wycombe Wanderers.
Andy Cannon also penned a new contract, committing himself to Wrexham until the end of the 2025/26 season and with the option of a further year.
Brought in from Hull City two years ago, Cannon won the National League title in his first season and was one the club’s best performers in last season’s League Two promotion campaign.
He scored eight goals in 41 appearances as the Reds finished runners-up to Stockport County, who he had helped win the National League title in 2022 while on loan from Hull
“I’m absolutely delighted,” Cannon told the club’s website. “It’s been a great 18 months for me since I’ve been here so I’m over the moon to get it done. Jimmy (James McClean) was begging me to stay, so I had to!
“It’s a really exciting time, we’ve had two promotions, and I always go back to it – there is a great set of lads in there.
“To work with them day-in and day-out and the staff as well, it is a joy so I’m really looking forward to what’s ahead.
“I just want to get started again; I’m hoping for another really good season again – hopefully we’ll be successful.”
After securing the services of Cannon for another two seasons, manager Phil Parkinson said: “I’m pleased we’ve agreed a deal with Andy.
“He was a key player for us last season, and we’re looking forward to working with him again in the coming season.”
Wrexham looks to continue its promising start to the season when it faces Sheffield United on Tuesday in a first-round EFL Carabao Cup match.
The Red Dragons kicked off League One play with a 3-0 win over Wycombe on Saturday, as Max Cleworth, Jack Marriott and Steven Fletcher all scored.
The club didn’t seem at all affected by a second straight jump in divisions, as it continues to rise in the English football pyramid.
