Wolves are yet to replace Pedro Neto after the Portugal international’s move to Chelsea, although Gary O’Neil is now expected to be given a new forward.
Those at Molineux have less than two weeks before transfer deadline day on Friday 30th August to find a replacement, although a solution seems close to arriving.A story from Voetbal International now claims that Wolves are likely to sign Carlos Forbs.
The Dutch news outlet believe it is only a “matter of time” until the 20-year-old leaves Ajax for Wolves this summer, with the Portugal U21 international open to joining the Old Gold.
Voetbal International add that Francesco Farioli would like to keep Forbs in Amsterdam and believes he can improve the Sintra-born forward, although the Italian is said to be acceptant that the Ajax No.11 would be better suited to Premier League football.
Personal terms are not expected to be an issue between Wolves and Forbs, who earns £15,000-a-week at the Johan Cruyff Arena, with the report stating that a significant pay rise is in the pipeline should his move to Molineux materialise.
The Portuguese winger only joined Ajax in a £17.3m move from Manchester City back in August 2023 – although he now looks set to leave Amsterdam after just one season.
You may recall West Ham thought they had a deal for Forbs wrapped up – until the Dutch giants hijacked the agreement.
If O’Neil can work his coaching magic on Forbs and help him replicate his efforts from the Manchester City academy in the Premier League, Wolves will have themselves a real livewire.
The youngster remarkably scored 24 goals and also provided 23 assists in just 34 appearances for the Manchester City U18 side – displaying an unerring level of efficiency in the final third.
Forbs then netted 26 goals in 38 games in the U21 ranks at Manchester City – along with 13 assists – before West Ham and Ajax took notice.
The 2023/24 campaign was difficult for both Ajax and Forbes, as the Dutch giants finished fifth in the Eredivisie, while the £17.3m man only scored four goals in 34 appearances.
