Blackpool have likely moved on from former Lincoln City playmaker Danny Mandriou as the player reportedly closes in on a return to Ireland, something former manager Mark Kennedy warned him could happen.
The player had a public falling out with now-Swindon Town boss Kennedy when a rash challenge cost the player a red card and criticism from the manager.
“We’re here to educate him and help him, not destroy his talent. I don’t know where he’ll be in five years, he could be in the Championship, he could be back in Ireland,” added Kennedy following their 1-0 defeat to Burton Albion.
“If he changes his mentality and there’s structure to his game, he’s got incredible talent and he can go wherever he wants to go – but if he doesn’t change that, he’ll just be another statistic.
The player was offered a new deal to stay at Sincil Bank but opted to turn it down in pursuit of other opportunities. He had spoken to Blackpool with manager Neil Critchley confirming that they had held talks with the player:
“We’re speaking to numerous players. We’re talking to Danny (Mandroiu) because he’s a free agent, but we’re in discussions with others. There’s a few weeks to go, we do our work vigorously behind the scenes every day.
League of Ireland side St Pats had previously been linked by journalist Neil O’Riordan but it now appears as though they have been joined by former club Shamrock Rovers, according to The Times in attempting to bring him back to Ireland.
Taking pieces from various reports it appears as though the player was hopeful or confident in being able to slot into another club in League One, which was perhaps the reason he turned down the opportunity to stay with the Imps. But as a move failed to materialise, he has likely been faced with a decision, move back to Ireland and try and reignite his form or spend the remaining couple of weeks of the window hoping that an EFL club will take the punt on him.
