French football returned on the weekend with two players in action after leaving Leeds United this summer, in the form of Glen Kamara and Charlie Cresswell.
Cresswell, 22, was always expected to leave Leeds this summer after managing just seven appearances for Daniel Farke last season. The England U21 international made the surprise move to Ligue 1, however.
Meanwhile, Glen Kamara left Leeds after just one season and joined Rennes. The Finland star produced an excellent display as Rennes smashed Lyon in the result of the weekend in Ligue 1, securing a 3-0 victory.
French media gave their take on Kamara’s display, describing his performance as “very intelligent”. The midfielder has been a long-term target for Rennes right back to his Rangers days and you can see why.
Cresswell posts on Instagram after brilliant Toulouse debut
Meanwhile, Cresswell started on the right of a back three for Toulouse as the French side hosted Nantes. Toulouse had been expected to pick up three points but could only manage a 0-0 draw on Sunday.
However, French media were also impressed with the Thorp Arch product after he starred at the back and could have scored a couple of headers. He took to Instagram following his competitive Toulouse debut.
Cresswell said on Monday following his first outing on Sunday: “Happy to make my league debut for this club. We’ll take the point and move onto the next one. Top support from the fans. Allez Toulouse.”
Tottenham’s Gray replies to Cresswell ahead of Tottenham debut
Cresswell was described as a “control tower” by French media as he stood head and shoulders above his teammates. WhoScored even claim he won nine headers, a massive portion of the 22 won by Toulouse.
England U21 teammates and fellow Leeds product Gray commented on Cresswell’s post, replying to his Instagram with “nice Crez”. Leeds attacker Gelhardt also gave his verdict, telling Cresswell “love it mukka”
