Aston Villa ‘moved to London’ in remarkable TV error by Gary Neville’s new employers
Arsenal and Aston Villa will face off on Saturday evening but an advert on American TV has labelled it a “London derby” in an embarrassing geographical blunder
Arsenal and Aston Villa has been billed as a London derby in a glaring gaffe by US channel NBC – who have just hired Gary Neville.
The American network show the Premier League across the Atlantic and were advertising the upcoming clash at the Emirates. Their geography was off though as they opened the promo by pitching it as a London derby despite Villa’s Birmingham location.
NBC have bolstered their coverage this season by adding Neville with the announcement made last week. He made his debut in their studio for the opening weekend of the season before heading back to Sky Sports, where he will continue to provide his expertise.
Neville first joined Sky during the 2011/2012 season and has since become of the top pundits in England. He scaled back his commitments on Monday Night Football last season, with Jamie Carragher becoming the programme’s lead pundit, but is back in the studio for Leicester’s game with Tottenham.
The ex-Manchester United man has remained as Sky’s top co-commentator, alongside lead commentator Peter Drury. Neville’s new role will see him join NBC’s studio team of Rebecca Lowe, Robbie Earle, Robbie Mustoe and Tim Howard weekly.
Having missed the entire season last year, Aston Villa playmaker Emiliano Buendia finally made his return to the matchday squad for the first time since May 2023 this past weekend.
The 27-year-old has been a big miss for Villa in the year that he’s been sidelined, as he’s had to go through a gruelling rehabilitation and recovery process after suffering a serious knee injury.

Similarly to many of his teammates, the Argentine ace looked to be growing and developing into a much-improved version of himself following the appointment of Unai Emery, as after scoring just one goal and with no assists in the 13 games prior to his arrival, Buendia became a mainstay in the side under the Basque coach and contributed four goals and two assists in the 25 games that followed.
