Despite having made great strides on the pitch across the last 12 months, Everton are still far from where they want to be heading into their new stadium.
After all, the Bramley-Moore Dock arena promises a refresh, both commercially and physically, trading in Goodison Park and all the recent turmoil for what should be a venue that will lead them into a brighter future.
The finances are healing, slowly, and progress is being made regarding Sean Dyche’s squad too. There is cause for optimism, but as always, it must remain cautious.
Phil Jagielka, however, still remains completely baffled as to how the Toffees’ takeover is going, given how the saga continues to drag on.
Phil Jagielka questions Everton’s takeover plans
Speaking on David Seaman’s Seaman Says podcast, the former Arsenal goalkeeper invited the 42-year-old on to talk about all things Everton as well as the rest of the Premier League.
After all, it had been a hectic opening weekend of fixtures, in which his former side were disappointingly dispatched by Brighton and Hove Albion by three goals to nil.
Everton have been heavily linked with a move for Atletico-MG star Alisson Santana in recent days and have reportedly submitted an opening bid.
As we have consistently reported, Sean Dyche is keen to bring in another new winger before the window slams shut, despite the Toffees already signing Jack Harrison and Jesper Lindstrom.
However, it was the Toffees’ takeover turmoil which was of greater interest to Jagielka, as he stated: ‘Well that’s a hard one, when you hear that someone’s going to buy it, someone’s going to do a takeover. Well, we’ve not heard of half of them and the other guy is part of another club now as well.
‘So you’ve got no idea. It’s like, how on earth is this going to get sorted? Because normally, if someone wants to buy a club, it just sort of happens. There must be something we don’t know about.’
Jagielka spoke about the Goodison Park atmosphere as well, and how it has altered since he departed after years of such emotional distress.
