Swansea City v Cardiff City exact scoreline predicted as writers give South Wales derby verdicts

The first South Wales derby of the season arrives just three games into the Championship campaign

The South Wales derby is upon us.

It’s always a fiery affair when these two sides meet, and Sunday’s meeting is unlikely to be any different.

Swansea emerged 2-0 winners when the two sides met here last season, after Cardiff City had claimed victory in the reverse fixture – a win that halted a run of four straight wins for the Swans.

How will this one pan out?

Here’s how our writers see it going.

Glen Williams – Cardiff City correspondent

It’s tough to assess both team’s chances so early in to the campaign, but on the relatively little evidence we have, it would be tough not to bet against the hosts.

Erol Bulut eyes defensive reinforcements after Carabao Cup ...

Cardiff have not scored a goal and have lost their opening two Championship fixtures an aggregate of 7-0. Given they have won just twice in 11 derby encounters, it doesn’t bode well for Erol Bulut’s men.

Had this game been at home, it might sway things just a little, but considering it’s at the Swansea.com Stadium, you’d think Luke Williams’s side come into this one hot favourites, particularly as they are coming off the back of a comfortable 3-0 win over Preston North End.

It’s a big game for Cardiff, though, this. A win could really kickstart their campaign and ignite a positive run. And a first goal could be a real shot in the arm for Cardiff that gets their attacking juices flowing.

Tom Coleman – Sports writer

But this early into the season, with new signings not quite up to speed and this new style of play needing a bit of time before it looks as though it will yield results, I just don’t see them scoring more than their opposition. Bluebirds fans will hope I’m wrong, no doubt!
