2 Premier League targets that should be on Exeter City’s radar this week
Despite an unusually high number of players arriving at St. James’ Park this summer, Exeter City are not finished in the transfer market just yet.
The Grecians have brought in 10 new faces as boss Gary Caldwell works hard to build a squad with the quality to crack a top-half finish in League One.
Some are for the future, some are for now, and some are just passing through with four loans confirmed for the season ahead.
A club the size of Exeter should certainly make use of the loan market, though that naturally comes to the detriment of the development of home-grown players.
However, the game is all about glory and making sure you’ve got the three points in the bag come 5pm on Saturday.
Premier League loans are clearly a market that City are shopping in this summer with three of their four borrowed players coming from top-flight English clubs.
Dale Taylor
Highly-rated Nottingham Forest youngster Dale Taylor looks a perfect fit for what City are after.
The 20-year-old Northern Ireland international could link up with compatriot Josh Magennis and provide quality and cover in a number of positions City utilise on a regular basis.
With City’s current injury crisis on the left, Taylor would provide a valuable option in the attacking midfield role on that side, with Demetri Mitchell recovering from a long-term ACL injury and Yanic Wildschut recently ruled out for the season with one of his own.
Crucially for a young player as well, Taylor has proven experience at City’s level and if he can come in, and have the kind of impact Tristan Crama has so far after he spent time at Bristol Rovers last season it would be very shrewd business.
Ibane Bowat
Another area where City could be looking to reinforce is their stable of left-footed centre-backs. Johnly Yfeko looks an outstanding prospect on loan from Rangers, while Ben Purrington is certainly solid enough and can play in a few positions.
However, injuries to either, or to left wing-backs Vincent Harper and Ilmari Niskanen, will leave City short, especially with Wildschut out for the season and Mitchell working his way back.
