An in and out performance but deserved point from Eddie Howe’s side.
Joelinton caught in possession in midfield and Tavernier the eventual goalscorer, although I also thought Kelly should have got closer to the Bournemouth player who put in the low cross for an assist.
Harvey Barnes was excellent when he came off the bench. Joelinton should have given the keeper no chance from Barnes’ superb cross and then an even better ball in from the former Leicester star eluded everybody apart from Gordon ghosting in at the back post, a cool finish.
However, a massive talking point of course, was the ‘winner’ in added time for Bournemouth.
The referee giving the ‘goal’ but VAR overturning it, as replays showed that where the ball struck the Bournemouth player on the arm was clearly handball.

We asked Davey Hat-Trick to give us his match ratings and player comments after Bournemouth 1 Newcastle 1.
A difficult watch for long periods, reminiscent of too many of last season’s away performances.
Newcastle got away with a point they scarcely deserved.
We were overrun in the first half – the first 15 minutes excepted – and even though we improved in the second period, we needed a dodgy VAR call to chalk off a second Bournemouth strike that looked ‘givable’ to me.
Once we’d scored, I thought we’d go on and win but in the end I’m grateful for the point.
In fact, four points from our first two games isn’t a terrible start to the season.
Nick Pope – 7
Can’t remember him being caught out too often and nearly scored.
His problem – and the same goes for Krafth – is that he doesn’t move the ball quickly enough from back to front. Daft yellow card.
Looked sluggish today, always a split-second behind the play.
A couple of decent moments but he just can’t dominate the midfield. Deservedly subbed off.
Bruno Guimaraes – 6
Battled as ever but nothing much came off for him today.
Another one that seemed galvanised by the arrival of Barnes and Trippier
Joelinton – 6
Looked well off the pace in the first half – along with several others – and was responsible for losing the ball in the action that led to Bournemouth’s goal.
Woke up in the second half and nearly scored.
Silly yellow that a different ref might have given as a silly red.
Jacob Murphy – 5
Grafted hard and was alert to the Bournemouth left back’s upfield forays.
Some good forward runs but lost the ball too many times and his end product was poor.
Alexander Isak – 7
Some talk at the start of the season suggested he’d be rivalling Haaland for the PL’s top scorer. Well he won’t if we don’t get the ball to him.
Spent too much time on the wing or in midfield, trying to make things happen.
He is really good with the ball at his feet but I want to see him demonstrate that in front of goal.
In truth, he barely impacted the game but in truth that wasn’t really his fault.
Anthony Gordon – 7
I don’t know if his lack of minutes at the Euros, or alleged interest from Liverpool, has messed with his head, but he’s not at the levels we saw last season.
Seemed to lose interest for periods of the first half and only really perked up when he was switched to the right wing.
However, he did what no one else in white and green with black trim could do, and stuck the ball in the net. One of the seven points is for that.
