Members News: Reminder – David Phillips Is Tomorrow Night’s ‘Special’ For Oxford League Cup Tie.

Just to remind you that CCFPA member, Sky Blues F.A.Cup winning hero David Phillips will be our ‘special guest’ at the CBS Arena for tomorrow night’s second Round League (Carabao) Cup tie with Oxford United (only 11 days since we pipped the newly promoted Us 3-2 at the CBS in the Championship)!  David, like the rest of the Sky Blue family will be hoping that Mark Robins‘ men can repeat the medecine, hopefully a bit more comfortably than last time. City will be looking to win and perform better after that relatively subdued performance at Bristol City‘s Ashton Gate in their 1-1 Championship draw on Saturday last.

As usual with our ‘specials’ before the game David will be accessible to fans in the supporters’ lounges in the CBS main stand doing a number of Q&As with our member, former Sky Blue defender and popular club match-day host, Brian’ Harry’ Roberts. There may also be time to get David to visit some of the fans’ executive boxes pre-match. Either way David is sure to have some great reminiscences of his mid eighties Sky Blues days and the ‘Boys of 87’.

We also hope to persuade David to visit the Arena’s G-Casino after the result is known, not to place a bet but to join CCFPA’s Billy Bell on stage to meet more fans in the Lady G’s lounge. All Sky Blues fans, and we are sure David, will be willing Mark Robins‘ men to get past Oxford United into the third round!

Amongst our other FPs we expect at the game who are also Sky Blue 1987 F.A.Cup winning heroes are, of course, CCFPA committee member Dave Bennett and fellow Club Legend, ex shot-stopper and all round CCFC back-room guy (and CCFPA member) Steve Ogrizovic. Oggy will be doing his usual Press Box stint assisting BBC CWR’s team with their live match-day commentary. If you really can’t get to Tuesday night’s game the next best thing is to tune in and listen to him!

Though born in Germany (his dad was in the RAF) our ‘special’ David was capped for Wales 62 times from 1984 (including whilst at Highfield Road). David served his football apprenticeship from 1979 with Plymouth Argyle, turning professional in 1981. After 93 appearances (netting sixteen goals) Manchester City came calling for the hard working and versatile midfielder in 1984.
