Termarr Johnson and Michael Kennedy receive promotions
The Pittsburgh Pirates announced Sunday that two of their top prospects will be finding themselves in new uniforms, as Termarr Johnson was promoted to Double-A Altoona, while Michael Kennedy is moving up to high-a Greensboro.
Johnson was slow out of the gates coming out of Spring, but after a productive June that saw him earn a selection to the Futures Game during All-Star weekend, the 20-year old infielder has put together an impressive campaign with the Grasshoppers. Boasting an OBP of .372 with 46 RBIs and 13 homers saw Johnson take the next step that fans were waiting on since he was drafted.
Seeing Johnson get promoted to Altoona this late in the season should all but guarantee a full season of double-a play next year, with a projected Major League ETA coming in 2025.
Kennedy has been having a stellar season himself. With the Bradenton Marauders the Pirates’ number 15 ranked prospect had a 4.07 ERA, to go along with an impressive 80 strikeouts over 73 innings.
One of the top arms in Pittsburgh’s system, Kennedy was drafted in 2022 straight out of High School with the team’s fourth round pick. Kennedy did not make his pro-debut the Summer he was drafted, instead waiting to see action in the Florida Complex League for the 2023 season.
Both Johnson and Kennedy are upon the list of the team’s top 30 prospects, and with both getting promoted at this point in the year, they’ll be on the organization’s radar at the start of next year. Johnson is the third-ranked Pirates prospect, while Kennedy is number 15 on the top 30 list.
Triple-A Indianapolis lost 5-2 to the Columbus Clippers in a game without many notable performances to speak of; Bradenton lost by the same margin. Michael Kennedy gave the Marauders five scoreless innings before Lakeland roughed up their bullpen, and Shalin Polanco made his way on base three times.
