FOOTBALL – Jamie Allen to battle for place in Coventry City side after making 150th appearance for club
JAMIE Allen insists he will ‘battle’ for his place in the Coventry City side after making his 150th appearance for the club in their 1-0 win against Oxford United in the Carabao Cup.
Allen made his third appearance of the season against the U’s and won back possession in the lead up to Brandon Thomas-Asante’s winner at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
And after bringing up a landmark number of appearances for the Sky Blues, Allen hopes to cement his place in City’s midfield for the remainder of the season.
Allen said: “Everyone wants to play football, nobody wants to sit on the bench, so I will battle for my place and keep doing that to try and stay in the team.
“There’s a lot of competition and training has gone up another level, it’s very intense and it’s because everyone wants to play.
“We haven’t done too well in the Carabao Cup over the last few years, so we’re happy to get into the third round.
“I knew before the [Oxford] game, so I was happy to achieve that feat [150 appearances] and hopefully there are more to come.
“We have a strong squad now and it’s good for us to have that rotation in the team when anyone can come in at any point.
“As long as people are ready to do the job, we can continue to tick these wins over.”
Coventry are next in action against Norwich City on Saturday, August 31 with kick-off at 12.30pm at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
