‘Demanding success’ – Bolton Wanderers vs Exeter City prediction: The72

Bolton Wanderers host Exeter City this weekend back in league action after a win for Ian Evatt’s side midweek in the Carabao Cup.

Bolton Wanderers will be looking to make it two wins from two this Saturday in what would be their first win of the season since the opening day.

Evatt’s side started the season beating Leyton Orient, but have since followed that up with a point against Wrexham and defeat to Charlton Athletic.

Meanwhile, Exeter City have a similar story. A win over Rotherham United on the opening day has been followed up with two defeats leaving them chasing a second win of the campaign.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

Thomas Kelly-Hansford

“Bolton Wanderers narrowly missed out on promotion last season. Just five points separated them and Derby County in 2nd, and Evatt’s since fell short at Wembley in the play-off final.

“Those experiences should help them going forward, but it will take a lot of character for them to replicate some of the form they demonstrated throughout the course of last season. Bolton Wanderers have to be aiming for a win here if they are serious about pushing for the Championship this year, but it won’t be an easy game

“Exeter City had a decent year themselves last season finishing mid-table in the third tier. It will be interesting to see if they manage to maintain that, or improve on that.

“They won’t want to wait too much longer before picking up another point, but I have a feeling it will be at least another week before they do so.”

Prediction: Bolton Wanderers 2-1 Exeter City

James Ray

“Bolton Wanderers fans are demanding success this season after another near-miss last time around. Ian Evatt and co have to stay focused on the task at hand though, they can’t get distracted by the demands of their fans or get too down when points are dropped.

“A home clash against an unpredictable Exeter City side is definitely a good chance to get three points on the board, and I think they’ll do just that.

“The Grecians should be just fine this season but they are a tough side to call on. We’ve seen what they’re capable of on their day but there are times when you’re left wanting more, and they’re prone to going on a losing streak.
