Newcastle suffer further blow as Crystal Palace make Marc Guehi decision
HITC understands that Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has set a new price tag for English defender Marc Guehi amid interest from Newcastle United.
We had reported last week that Newcastle United remained in talks with Crystal Palace over a deal for Marc Guehi after seeing four bids for the English defender rejected.
The latest offer made by the Magpies was understood to be in the region of £70 million, which is what Newcastle believed that Palace wanted, but the South London club turned down their proposal and this prompted Paul Mitchell to begin looking at alternatives.
With less than 48 hours to go before the summer transfer window slams shut, Newcastle will have to get a move on and sources have told HITC that Crystal Palace’s chairman, Steve Parish, has upped his price for Guehi.
Crystal Palace up their price for Marc Guehi
HITC can reveal that Palace want a deal worth around £75 million from Newcastle United for Marc Guehi this summer.
Parish thinks with the window being so late and Guehi still having two years on his contract – a deal worth £75million is correct.
Before they made their move for Guehi, HITC reported that Newcastle had a broad agreement on terms with Malick Thiaw but the Magpies moved for the English defender as Eddie Howe believed him to be the best option.
Newcastle’s stance on Marc Guehi talks with Crystal Palace
Whilst we had also reported that Newcastle remained in talks over a deal for Guehi, sources have told HITC that the Magpies were beginning to look at alternative targets for that role.
Newcastle were becoming frustrated with the situation which has led them to explore alternatives, although the issue is that manager Howe feels Guehi is by far the best option of those the clubs are currently looking at.
Time is indeed running out on what has been a very frustrating summer for those at St James’ Park and if the club fail to get a deal for Guehi over the line, it would cap off a summer of disappointment.
