Norwich City boss makes honest Abu Kamara transfer admission after forward’s move to Hull City
Highly-rated winger Abu Kamara joined Hull City on transfer deadline day
Norwich City head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup has spoken of his sadness over the sale of Abu Kamara to Hull City. The young forward completed his move to the MKM Stadium on transfer deadline day for a fee that could rise to £4.5m based on a series of add-ons.
London-born Kamara, a dynamic winger, penned a four-year deal with the Tigers, with the option of a further 12 months. Thorup said he would have liked to have worked with Kamara but the 21-year-old indicated his desire to leave the Canaries earlier in the summer.
“Of course, even though a player thinks that another club is better for him, then we still need a transfer deal that we can accept,” stressed Thorup. “We got the deal that we wanted here towards the end.
“I’m still sad that he left, because I think he has potential to become a good player, and I think he would have been close and maybe also around the squad and the games that we played so far.
“But that’s how it is. Not every strategy and every club is for everyone. It’s better suited that we have players who can find their happiness somewhere else.”
Kamara featured prominently in Portsmouth winning the League One title last term. He playing every league match, featuring 52 times across all competitions. His attacking output caught the eye as Kamara contributed 10 goals and 11 assists in Pompey securing promotion back to Championship for the first time since 2012.
