Man City could have four ‘new signings’ to face Brentford as key man spotted back in training
The international break has so far gone to plan for Pep Guardiola, who has seen his most important players return to Manchester City unscathed.
So far, Manchester City players have followed Pep Guardiola’s golden rule on international duty – don’t get injured.
Yet, it hasn’t been plain sailing for Guardiola’s stars. Kevin De Bruyne ended his week tearing into his Belgium teammates, while Phil Foden and Savinho had to withdraw before the break with illness and injury. Spain boss Luis de la Fuente also risked a public row with Guardiola by insisting he would put his country ahead of City’s wishes by starting Rodri against Switzerland regardless of his fitness.
As it happened, Rodri survived his first appearance of the season, and he will return to City like a new signing having taken time to return to action following a summer injury. Assuming there are no side-effects, Rodri should be in line to return to action for City when they host Brentford on Saturday.
Similarly, summer signing Savinho is back in training – with midfielder Matheus Nunes inexplicably posting a picture of himself at the CFA on Wednesday with the winger in the background. Savinho had withdrawn from Brazil’s squad with a minor knee injury, with that rest appearing to have had the desired effect. He had previously posted a picture of himself in his personal gym.
With an assist and a penalty won in his first three games for City, Savinho will be a fresh weapon on the flanks for a busy period that sees Inter Milan, Arsenal and Watford also visit the Etihad in the ten days after Brentford.
