Player who left Derby County finds new club following Stockport County trial
Hibernian have signed recent Stockport County trialist Dwight Gayle following his exit from Derby County, as announced by their official club website.
Derby County made the decision to cut ties with the striker at the end of last season. He helped them gain promotion from League One along with Portsmouth and Oxford United.
Gayle, 34, saw his deal with the Rams expire in late June and has since been weighing up his options in the game. He had a trial with Stockport County last month along with Oli Norwood, as per ManchesterWorld, but didn’t end up signing for the Hatters.
He has now penned a one-year contract at Easter Road. Hibs’ manager David Gray has told their website: “It’s great to be able to bring Dwight to the Club. He’s performed at a top-level throughout his career and has a real desire to show his abilities here in Scotland. He’s a different type of striker to what we currently have in the building. He’s a real penalty box type of striker, a great finisher, and his experience will be of great benefit to us. I look forward to working with him.”

Derby County signed Gayle back in February on a short-term basis to bolster their attacking options.
He scored three goals in six games for the Rams to help them go up from the third tier.
They decided not to extend his stay though this summer and he subsequently became available again.
Gayle caught the eye at Dagenham and Redbridge in his early career and was snapped up by Peterborough United in the Championship.
He went on to score 13 goals in 29 games for the Posh before landing a switch to the Premier League with Crystal Palace.
The Londoner went on to find the net on 25 occasions in 74 games for the Eagles.
