Leicester City have been linked with interest in Cameroon international defender Joyskim Dawa.
City have been named by the Mirror as one of the clubs who have an eye on the Steaua Bucharest centre-back. Premier League rivals Everton and Fulham, as well as Championship promotion contenders Burnley and Leeds, are also said to be keeping tabs on the 28-year-old.
Dawa is only just starting to catch the attention of clubs after a long route to the top. Briefly in Monaco’s academy as a teenager, the centre-back has worked his way up through smaller clubs in Ukraine, Latvia, and Romania to Steaua, where he is now competing on a continental level.
Playing 36 of 40 matches to help Steaua win their first league title in nine years last term, Dawa then scored twice in Champions League qualifying this season. The Romanian giants couldn’t quite make it to Uefa’s biggest tournament, but they did qualify for the Europa League, where they sit alongside Tottenham and Lyon at the top of the table after two wins from two, with Dawa at the heart of surprise 1-0 away win over Greek side PAOK.
City are well-set for centre-backs at the moment, though. Wout Faes and Caleb Okoli have established themselves as Steve Cooper’s starting pair, with Conor Coady and Jannik Vestergaard in reserve, and with promising talent Ben Nelson on loan at Championship side Oxford United.
A left-footed defender may be on City and Cooper’s radar as they begin to think about the January window. However, Dawa is right-footed.
