Red Bull Stuck with Wrong Rear Wing for Las Vegas GP
Red Bull Racing has found themselves in a tricky situation at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, as they’ve realized they’ve brought the wrong rear wing specification for the event ¹. This mistake could potentially hinder their performance, particularly in terms of speed.
According to reports, the Red Bull cars are losing more than half a second on the straights due to the incorrect rear wing ². This is a significant disadvantage, especially considering the high-speed nature of the Las Vegas circuit.
Helmut Marko, Red Bull’s senior advisor, confirmed that they won’t be able to fly in a new rear wing before qualifying, stating, “We don’t have another rear wing, a smaller rear wing, as we see it on our competitors. It would be more helpful, for sure” ¹.
Max Verstappen, the reigning Formula 1 champion, expressed his struggles with grip on the track, saying, “It’s slippery. I think we struggled a lot with making the tyres work, over one lap especially” ². Verstappen’s teammate, Sergio Perez, also faced similar challenges, finishing 19th in FP2.
Despite the setback, Red Bull remains optimistic about their chances. Marko emphasized the importance of finding consistency, saying, “We need more balance. On the single lap we can improve. But on the long run, the tyre wear is a problem at the moment” ¹.
As the Las Vegas Grand Prix unfolds, it will be interesting to see how Red Bull adapts to their situation and whether they can overcome the disadvantage of having the wrong rear wing.
