Cincinnati Reds Update: Matt McLain’s Injury and Expected Return

The Cincinnati Reds have been dealing with a significant blow to their lineup, as star infielder Matt McLain has been sidelined with a shoulder injury. McLain underwent successful surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder on March 27, 2024.¹

According to Reds president of baseball operations Nick Krall, there is no definitive timeline for McLain’s return. However, McLain himself is hopeful to rejoin the team in August. “Whenever it’s ready, it’s ready,” McLain said. “There’s a timeline for everything. Dr. (Neal) Elattrache told me the timeline could be this, but the shoulder could heal faster or slower. August would be a great goal”.²

McLain’s injury has been a significant setback for the Reds, who have struggled to find consistency in their lineup. The 24-year-old infielder was expected to play a crucial role in the team’s success this season.

As McLain continues his rehabilitation, the Reds will be eagerly awaiting his return. With his bat and glove, McLain is expected to provide a significant boost to the team’s chances of making a playoff push.

In the meantime, the Reds will need to rely on other players to step up and fill the void left by McLain’s absence. The team’s fans will be keeping a close eye on McLain’s progress, eagerly anticipating his return to the field.
