It appears there’s been a mix-up. Mike McCarthy, the Dallas Cowboys coach, didn’t sign Jerry Jones, the team’s owner, to a contract. Instead, McCarthy himself has been coaching under a five-year contract worth $4-to-$7 million per season, which he signed in 2020.¹

As the 2024 season comes to a close, there’s been speculation about McCarthy’s future with the team. Despite a disappointing season, Jerry Jones hasn’t ruled out the possibility of extending McCarthy’s contract.² ³ Jones has expressed his admiration for McCarthy’s coaching abilities, highlighting his Super Bowl win and successful tenure with the Green Bay Packers.

However, it’s worth noting that McCarthy’s current contract is set to expire, and the team’s performance this season has been underwhelming. The Cowboys’ owner will likely take several factors into consideration before making a decision about McCarthy’s future.

In any case, there’s no indication that Mike McCarthy has signed Jerry Jones to a contract worth $2.9 million or any other amount.
