The 2024 LPGA Tour season is about to come to an end. And with that, so will Lexi Thompson’s professional career. At the US Women’s Open, the American professional announced that she would no longer be playing full-time on the Tour. Although she did not mention the word ‘retirement’ in her speech, the word ‘goodbye’ showed how serious she was.
Lexi Thompson last appeared at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G which concluded just a few hours ago. There was no glorious win and walk-off for her, sadly. She was at a forgettable T15 (tied with 9 others), 4 strokes behind Ashleigh Buhai, who bagged the win. And now the big question is what’s net for her in terms of golf!
Pretty much similar to the FedEx Cup Standings on the PGA Tour, the LPGA Tour also has a series of competitions to declare the Player of the Year title. A lot of players like Nelly Korda, Lydia Ko, and Charley Hull did not appear at the event that just concluded. That was likely to prepare for the BMW Championship.
Now as the tournament days inch closer (October 17 to October 20), the name entries for the event have been released. And Lexi Thompson is not on the list. Following the BMW Championship, there is also the Maybank Championship and the Buick LPGA Shanghai. Both of them are to take place in October. Their entire field lists are public too. And guess what? Thompson’s not a part of those either!
Considering she won’t be participating in the BMW Championship, Thompson also won’t be able to make it to the Tour Championship in November, hence an appearance there is out of the question too.
So, as per the data, it looks like Lexi’s 2024 has come to a close after the NW Arkansas Championship itslef. That is as long as there are no last-minute additions!
