Unai Emery’s men have enjoyed plenty of highlights in the Champions League so far this term, but it has on the whole been a frustrating campaign domestically.

The players have struggled to cope with fighting on multiple fronts and Emery and recruitment mastermind Monchi are therefore trying to bring in reinforcements.

The first signing of January has all been all but wrapped up, according to various sources. After some haggling, Aston Villa and Borussia Dortmund have finally struck a deal for Donyell Malen.

The Dutchman is finally getting the Premier League move he has been pushing for for over a year, while Dortmund receive a handsome fee for a player who has often flattered to deceive.

According to German outlets, Dortmund will pocket the €30 million they had demanded, while English sources speak of a deal in the region of €26m including bonuses.

TBR Football claims that West Ham have reignited their interest in Jhon Duran after chasing him seemingly all summer. The outlet goes so far as to suggest that an official bid has been made.

However, according to Fabrizio Romano, Villa consider Duran untouchable in January, especially after his contract extension in November. Despite interest from ‘many’ clubs, the striker is going nowhere.

Douglas Luiz has had a difficult start to life at Juventus after leaving Aston Villa in the summer and there have been reports that he is already open to leaving again.

In October, Monchi admitted that he would love to re-sign the Brazilian and Villa have been named among the clubs keen on him. However, according to TuttoMercatoWeb, Luiz is not interested in returning and would favour a move to Man Utd or Man City.
