Final predictions for college football playoff National Championship between ohio state Buckeyes and Notre Dame fighting lrish

Well Syracuse Orange fans, the 2024 college football season comes to end tonight when the Ohio State Buckeyes take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish for the CFP title.

The game will kick off after 7:30 on ESPN from the Mercedes-Benz Dome in Atlanta (site of the Orange’s first game in 2025). Last week Dom and I hit both semi-final predictions while Mike’s required selection of Penn State left him 1-1. Let’s get to our predictions for tonight:

Notre Dame is going to have to play a clean game to have a chance. In the end, I think that injuries on their offensive line are going to make it tough for them to hang with the Buckeyes. It’ll be a close game at the half then Ohio State takes over in the 3rd quarter. A late TD drive makes the final score look closer than it is. Ryan Day can buy his own damn champagne.

Ohio State is the hot pick right now and for good reason considering how well it has responded from the Michigan loss with consecutive strong wins in the CFP. That being said, I have a weird feeling Notre Dame will come to the championship with the “nobody believes in us” mentality and slow down the Buckeyes just enough on offense to win a tight game.

It pains me immensely to admit that the Buckeyes are just on another level right now. Their defense has been suffocating and they’ve seemingly slayed whatever demons they had earlier this season. No disrespect to the Fighting Irish, who are a better team than I previously gave credit for, but even in the expanded CFP, we can’t have that much parity, can we? The trophy stays in BIG country.
