Biles has long been noncommittal about her future in gymnastics, citing her age, personal aspirations and the sacrifices required for another Olympic run. However, during her Sports Illustrated interview, Biles offered her clearest response on whether she will compete in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

“Because I’ve accomplished so much, there’s almost nothing left to do, rather than to just be snobby and to try again and for what? I’m at a point in my career where I’m humble enough to know when to be done,” she said.

“If you go back, you’ll be greedy. Those are the consequences. But that’s also your decision to decide. What sacrifices would be made if I go back now? When you’re younger, it’s like prom, college. Now it’s like starting a family, being away from my husband. What’s really worth it?”

Her husband, Jonathan Owens, a safety for the Chicago Bears, has been a pivotal part of Biles‘ support system.

While she once left the door slightly ajar for a potential return-particularly with the 2028 Games being hosted on home soil-her comments suggest she’s increasingly content with her storied career.

Few professional athletes can say they’ve had as successful of a year as Olympian Simone Biles did in 2024.

The 27-year-old gymnast had an impressive run at the 2024 Paris Olympics, winning gold in the team, all-around and vault events and taking silver in the floor exercise, running her total Olympic medal count to 11 (Biles also has 30 World Championship medals, making her the most-decorated gymnast in the sport’s history.)

In addition to her Olympic success, Biles won the ESPY for Best Comeback Athlete, she was named Sportsperson of the Year by Sports Illustrated on Thursday, and she was runner-up to Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark for the Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year award.

And despite all of her personal success, the one question Biles gets asked the most — and the question she admittedly hates answering — is will she compete in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles?
