Wrexham player proves he still can be a ‘constant menace’ for Phil Parkinson in win vs Reading

Wrexham continued their fine start to the season with a comfortable victory over Reading on Saturday afternoon.

Wrexham have kickstarted life back in League One with a bang. Phil Parkinson’s men were 3-2 victors over Wycombe Wanderers on opening day at the Racecourse Ground.

The Welsh outfit then secured an impressive goalless draw away at Bolton Wanderers before thrashing Reading 3-0 this weekend, in what was a completely dominant display.

George Dobson now holds an impressive record in the EFL this season for making more tackles (9) than any other player, with the 26-year-old stamping his authority in midfield.

Dobson wasn’t the only player to shine for Wrexham; Ollie Palmer was a nuisance to defend against as he grabbed himself a goal while another of Parkinson’s stars showered with praise.

Wrexham right wing-back Ryan Barnett returned to the starting XI in place of Sebastian Revan against Reading.

Revan had impressed in the defeat to Sheffield United and the goalless draw against Bolton but Parkinson preferred Barnett against the Royals, and it proved to be an inspired tactical decision

The 24-year-old won 100% of his ground duels (3/3), attempted 10 long balls and accurately placed three crosses, including the one he planted on Palmer’s head to open the scoring.

It was a complete defensive and attacking performance from Barnett, who was lauded as a ‘constant menace’ in The Leader’s player ratings, with the Englishman receiving a 9/10.

Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney was even left impressed by Barnett, as the Hollywood superstar lauded his cross for Palmer as ‘poetry’.

Parkinson addressed his Wrexham squad with quality across the pitch this summer and this means he’s often handed multiple selection headaches.
