James Trafford to Newcastle latest: Burnley stance, player stance, Scott Parker comments

Newcastle have reignited their interest in James Trafford but time is running out for the Magpies to complete a deal

Newcastle remain optimistic of getting a deal over the line for Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford.

James Trafford is the rising star with designs on being England’s No 1

The Magpies had an opening bid in the region of £16million rejected in June but could now test the waters at Turf Moor in the final days of the transfer window. talkSPORT reported this week Newcastle re-opened talks with Burnley, though there is preference from the Toon to sign him on loan with an obligation to buy next summer.

Trafford was a key player for Burnley last season despite the club’s relegation to the Championship. He has so far made two appearances under new manager Scott Parker this season after missing the win over Cardiff City earlier this month due to illness.

It is understood that Burnley are not interested in selling Trafford for an offer below what they paid Manchester City for his services just 12 months ago.

That package was said to be worth around £15m but any potential sale will include a percentage clause back to City who were reluctant to sell a player deemed to be a full international one day.

When asked about the goalkeeper’s future last week, Parker said: “At this moment in time, he’s here. What you need to understand is that speculation is speculation. James is here and James has got the shirt, hence why he played.
