Three Wrexham players that are already eyeing January transfer moves

Phil Parkinson may need to make some changes to his Wrexham squad in the January transfer window.

The 2024/25 campaign has got off to a superb start for Phil Parkinson and his first-team squad.

Wrexham were expected to struggle after making the step up to League One this season but that has proven to be far from the case.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds watched on as Wrexham beat Wycombe Wanderers 3-2 on the opening weekend of the campaign.

The Red Dragons then drew 0-0 with last season’s play-off finalists Bolton Wanderers before smashing Reading 3-0 and, most recently, beating Peterborough United 2-0.

The positive results so far leave the Welsh outfit sat joint-first in the third division after four games.

However, it is already clear that some senior players have seen their role at the club reduced following promotion to League One.

As a result, a few Wrexham stars could be eyeing up a January transfer later this season.

Will Boyle joined Wrexham from Huddersfield Town in July 2023 for an undisclosed fee and was dubbed a ‘fantastic’ defender by Nail Warnock after the move, as per Huddersfield’s club website.

However, Max Cleworth, Eoghan O’Connell and Tom O’Connor have been Parkinson’s first-choice centre-back trio this term so far, while new signings Dan Scarr and Lewis Brunt are also expected to get regular minutes in 2024/25.

As a result, Boyle, who is yet to feature in the league this season, may be forced to look for a move in January in order to start playing regularly again.

James Jones

James Jones has been a key figure at Wrexham during their rise up the football league ladder.

The midfielder signed from Lincoln City in August 2021 and has gone to play 122 games for the club in all competitions.

However, the arrival of George Dobson and Ollie Rathbone over the summer has pushed Jones far down the midfield pecking order and he too may need to leave in January.

The 28-year-old started in the League Cup versus Sheffield United but has played just eight minutes in the league so far.
