“Got to be worried” – Sky Sports pundit issues verdict on Erol Bulut’s Cardiff City future

Pundit David Prutton admits he is concerned about Cardiff City but believes Erol Bulut needs more time despite their poor start to the season in the Championship.

Cardiff finished in a respectable 12th place last term, and after Bulut signed a new two-year contract in June, there was hope that the Bluebirds could kick on this season.

The positivity around the Cardiff City Stadium increased after a busy summer transfer window that saw eight new signings arrive in South Wales, but it has been a disappointing start to the campaign.

Cardiff currently sit bottom of the Championship table after picking up just one point from their first four games, and they have scored just one goal and conceded 10 during that time.

The Bluebirds are back in action when they make the trip to face Derby County at Pride Park on Saturday as the second tier resumes after the international break, and Bulut’s men will be desperate to record their first win of the season.

Erol Bulut

Prutton says he is concerned by Cardiff’s underwhelming start to the season, but he believes that Bulut should be given more time to turn around his side’s fortunes.

“You’ve got to be worried about it, but then you’ve got to put it into context,” Prutton said on the Sky Sports Championship Catch-up podcast.

“What do we expect from Cardiff this season?

“That’s not me dialling down what their expectations are because it is a club with recent Premier League history.

“Take the Boro game, you’ve got a game that’s finished off with an own goal from Aaron Ramsey, so there is potentially a little bit of leeway to give them in that.

“There’s enough players in there with experience, the likes of Yakou Meite, Chris Willock, Aaron Ramsey and Calum Chambers.

“There’s experience there to be competitive in the Championship, but I just don’t know where they see themselves.

Cardiff City: Erol Bulut signs new deal to remain as manager ...

“Just as we said about Luton Town and giving Rob Edwards that bit of time and space to navigate teething problems, I’d like to think that’s the same with Cardiff.

“Broadly under Erol Bulut, they’ve been okay, but not really knocked on the door of the top six.

“We’ve spoken about the division maybe not being as strong with a couple of standout candidates so far, but where do we see them?”
