Mateo Joseph risks being left out of the Leeds United starting XI to face Sheffield United, Paul Robinson has said.
The 20-year-old Spaniard only has one goal in his eight league starts this season, albeit recording three assists too, scoring in the 2-0 win over Hull City in August.
Joel Piroe, on the other hand, has only started two Championship matches this season but already has four goals to his name while Patrick Bamford looks to be edging closer to his first league start of the season.
Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “As a striker, you have to score goals, and you don’t usually get given so many opportunities to do that. Piroe scored against Coventry and Sunderland, and Joseph has only scored one all season.
“I’m a big fan of Mateo Joseph. I think, going forward, he’s going to get a lot of game time. He’s proven himself as the manager has given him more minutes, but if you’re not scoring goals and another forward is, your place is always in jeopardy.
“At the moment, Joel Piroe looks sharp. He looked sharp against Sunderland. Farke is rotating Joseph and Piroe, and if you put Bamford into that situation, it’s a good problem for the manager to have.”
Mateo Joseph to sink down Leeds United pecking order?
Four goal contributions in his eight league starts is certainly not a bad record, but Farke needs someone who can fire home the goals while his teammates do the creative work.
