Five Storylines: No. 2 Ohio State women’s basketball vs. Michigan
In terms of the Ohio State women’s basketball rivalry with the Michigan Wolverines, the Scarlet and Grey had a successful season last year. Head coach Kevin McGuff’s team defeated the Maize and Blue three times, including a Big Ten Tournament game. However, this season, playing the Wolverines has not been a blessing. It has been a blemish.
With two games remaining in the regular season, the Buckeyes are 15-1 in conference play, with their only loss coming up north in Ann Arbour, Michigan. With far more on the line than just a rivalry win, both teams will be under intense pressure Wednesday night in Columbus.
Ohio State defeated Maryland, 79-66, on Sunday afternoon to clinch a share of the Big Ten regular season championship. The victory gave the Buckeyes at least a share of the Big Ten regular-season championship.
A victory on Wednesday wins the entire thing.
With the Iowa Hawkeyes and Indiana Hoosiers each having three conference losses, the Buckeyes only need to win one of their final two regular-season games.
On paper, Wednesday represents the best potential. The Wolverines have an 8-8 Big Ten record, with the Buckeyes being their only major victory of the season. If Ohio State fails to beat Michigan, they will travel to Iowa City on Sunday to face the No. 6 Iowa Hawkeyes.
