Detroit Red Wings need to make a Patrick Kane extension a priority
The Detroit Red Wings must make it a priority to re-sign Patrick Kane. There’s no reason he shouldn’t be brought back to join this organisation. The experienced winger has been a gift to this club.
Heck, after Kane’s Cinderella story against his former team in Chicago, the Detroit Red Wings should be willing to pay some money. After all, he’s currently in Detroit on a discount deal, with a one-year, $2.75 million contract that is pro-rated, so it’s even less in actuality.
There were concerns about Kane’s ability to return healthy, but he beat the odds with a remarkable comeback. His hip resurfacing surgery was successful, and his rehabilitation has brought him back to normal. While he believes there is still space for development, Kane has performed admirably thus far.
He’s settled in with Detroit, found his stride, and has been able to step in and perform admirably. Recently, he has been on fire. The offence is flooding in, and despite another stay on the Injured Reserve, he is back to full strength, as evidenced by recent performances. Steve Yzerman must sign Kane to an extension.
While we’ve been discussing extensions a lot lately on Octopus Thrower, Kane surely deserves one. Whether it was his overtime goal in his homecoming to Chicago, one of the best Ken Daniels calls to date, or his overall contribution to the team since signing in Hockeytown.
