Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana may have subtly disagreed with manager Enzo Maresca’s assessment of his injury, which occurred during the team’s 3-0 win over Aston Villa on Sunday.¹
Maresca had described Fofana’s injury as “bad news” and estimated that the defender would be out for three to five weeks with a hamstring problem.² However, Fofana’s recent social media activity has led some to speculate that he may not be out for as long as Maresca predicted.
Fofana’s injury is undoubtedly a significant blow to Chelsea, who have relied heavily on the 23-year-old defender this season. Maresca acknowledged as much, saying, “In this moment, we lose him for 10 or 12 games. In the way he was playing, it’s a big loss for us…”.
In Fofana’s absence, Chelsea may turn to Benoit Badiashile to partner Levi Colwill at the heart of the defense. Badiashile has impressed in recent appearances, including a strong showing against Leicester City.³
While the exact nature and severity of Fofana’s injury remain unclear, one thing is certain: Chelsea will need to adapt quickly in order to maintain their momentum in the Premier League.
