MIKEL ARTETA REVEALS THE ARSENAL MAN HE HAD TO FIGHT FOR TO CONVINCE THE CLUB TO SIGN
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed that he had to go to war to convince the club to sign one of his current players. In an exclusive interview, Arteta disclosed that he had to fight tooth and nail to bring the player to the Emirates Stadium.
“The player I had to go to war for was Oleksandr Zinchenko,” Arteta revealed. “I knew him from my time at Manchester City, and I knew what he could bring to the team. But it wasn’t easy to convince the club to sign him.”
Arteta explained that there were doubts within the club about Zinchenko’s ability to adapt to the Premier League and to fit into Arsenal’s system. However, Arteta was convinced that the Ukrainian international had the quality and the character to succeed at the Emirates Stadium.
“I had to fight for him, and I had to convince the club that he was the right player for us,” Arteta said. “But it was worth it, because he has been an incredible addition to the team. He brings a level of quality and experience that is hard to find, and he has been a key player for us this season.”
Zinchenko has indeed been a revelation since joining Arsenal in the summer. He has brought a level of consistency and quality to the team’s left flank, and has formed a strong partnership with Gabriel Martinelli.
Arteta’s revelation highlights the importance of a manager’s influence in the transfer market. It also shows that even the most experienced and respected managers have to fight to get their targets.
“It’s not always easy to get the players you want,” Arteta said. “But when you believe in a player, you have to fight for him. And I’m glad I did, because Oleksandr has been an incredible addition to the team.”
