One of Leeds United’s worst transactions in recent years was the sale of Leif Davis to Ipswich Town for £1.2 million, with the 24-year-old currently competing with the Whites for promotion from the Championship.
Leif Davis did not distinguish out when given the chance for Leeds. However, left-back has been an issue in previous years. Meanwhile, he has made 28 assists in 78 games for the Tractor Boys.
Unsurprisingly, the Premier League has expressed interest in the defence.
West Ham’s pursuit of Leif Davis may benefit Leeds this summer.
Both West Ham and Newcastle are keeping an eye on Davis. So he appears to have a solid chance of playing in the Premier League next year.
And perhaps West Ham’s interest, in particular, indicates that the Irons are prepared for the possible departure of one recent Leeds target this summer.
In January, the Whites expressed interest in a defender from the Hammers
Leeds expressed interest in Ben Johnson in January. Johnson is due to be out of contract at the London Stadium at the end of this season.
Of fact, Johnson appears to enjoy playing at right-back. However, he has made numerous appearances on the opposite wing for Davsid Moye’ side.
Davis’ arrival might potentially reduce Johnson’s minutes if he decides to stay at West Ham beyond this season.
It is unclear whether Leeds will attempt to sign the 24-year-old this summer. In terms of potential targets, much will be determined by whatever division we are in.
However, the club will most likely need to address a left-back issue this summer. As outstanding as Junior Firpo has been this season, he has yet to show himself in the Premier League. UnfortunatelySam Byr, am has continued to have injury concerns.
If Johnson is available, Leeds will almost certainly consider making a move.
And if West Ham make a play for Davis, Johnson may be tempted to go elsewhere.
