The fate of the five British teams and other European powerhouses will be decided in the final round of league phase matches.

Here, Express Sport takes a look at what each of our teams need to progress to the next round.

The top eight teams in the league phase automatically qualify for the last 16, while those ranked ninth to 24th enter a play-off round.

Teams ranked 25th and below are eliminated from Europe altogether. City currently sit in 25th place after a troubled start to the season, two points behind the cut-off.

However, they face a winnable fixture at home against the Belgian champions. A victory would see them surpass Brugge on goal difference, advancing them to the play-off round.

Liverpool, on the other hand, are leading the standings with seven wA loss or draw, however, would result in

Pep Guardiola’s side being eliminated.ins from seven, guaranteeing their last-16 qualification.re in the top two, which boosts their last-16 seeding, and need only a point in manager Arne Slot’s native Netherlands to secure first place ahead of Barcelona.

Mikel Arteta also heads to his homeland needing a point to secure Arsenal’s top-eight place and avoid the play-off round.

A win could propel them from third to second, potentially separating them from Liverpool until the final, should Barca falter against a seventh-placed Atalanta side still vying for direct qualification.

Aston Villa are just one spot and one goal shy of the top eight, currently rounded off by Bayer Leverkusen, with Celtic trailing by a further point in 18th place.

A victory would catapult the Premier League side into the top eight above Atalanta or Leverkusen if either stumble, AC Milan, Atletico Madrid or Inter Milan if they suffer defeat, or even the Gunners if they lose with a significant goal difference swing. Atalanta’s challenging fixture offers particular hope, while a draw would suffice if Leverkusen were to lose.

Celtic have already secured a play-off spot but a win would see them seeded for that round – possibly at the expense of European heavyweights such as Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Juventus or a Borussia Dortmund side who thrashed the Hoops 7-1 in October.

Automatic qualification is technically still within reach but would necessitate seven results all going Celtic’s way, including a draw between Lille and Feyenoord.
