Not only has Enzo Maresca’s side’s lead at the top of the table been sliced to just three points after picking up only one victory in their past five league games, but recent reports have hinted to an uncertain immediate future at the King.

That’s because the EFL released a statement last week revealing that the Foxes were expected to exceed the organization’s Profitability & Sustainability loss limits by the end of the season, prompting the EFL’s Independent Club Financial Reporting Unit (CFRU) to demand a business plan to demonstrate how they planned to comply with the rules.

Leicester have since responded to those regulations, claiming that the request should not be allowed because they were a Premier League club during the crucial accounting period of 2022/23.

However, rumours have revealed that the club may be obliged to severely slash their costs between now and June 30th if they want to improve their accounts for the current season, or a points deduction might hit them, regardless of whether they play in the Premier League or the Championship.

While those concerns have an impact on who may leave the club, as a number of high-profile players such as Wilfred Ndidi and Jamie Vardy have just over three months left on their respective contracts, the club’s potential financial landscape may have a significant impact on who it is able to attract in the summer transfer market.

One of those is current loanee Yunus Akgun, who was one of several acquisitions made by Maresca during his first transfer window as manager of the East Midlands club.

Akgun’s initial loan deal from Turkish Süper Lig giants Galatasary was confirmed on August 26th, with Ben Jacobs reporting that the two clubs agreed on a loan fee of €500,000 and that City had the option to sign him permanently for around €9 million if he appeared in 25 games for The Foxes.

The right winger appears to be on track to surpass that number in the remaining weeks of the Championship season, having added more than enough depth to this team and pleasing his Italian head coach thus far.
