Makhehlene Makhaula, a hard-working midfielder for the Orlando Pirates, scored his first goal in eight years on Saturday in the Nedbank Cup against AmaZulu. He clarified the humorous nature of the celebration.

It was a Nedbank Cup quarterfinal at Moses Mabhida Stadium, which was illuminated. With goals from Hendrick Ekstein, Patrick Maswanganyi, Taariq Fielies, and Kabelo Dlamini, Orlando Pirates and Usuthu were even at 2-2. Thanks to a score against his former team, Makhaula quickly put Orlando Pirates ahead 3-2. The footballer nicknamed ‘Ace’ was replaced due to weariness as he hurried across the pitch to give his custodian Sipho Chaine a hug.

After the match, Makhaula, who was born in Randfontein, told the club’s media that Chaine had prophesied he would score his first goal in eight years.

Makhaula told Orlando Pirates reporters, “Chase came to me before the game and made a bold prediction that I would score.”

Since I hadn’t scored in more than eight years, I didn’t take it seriously at the time. Thus, Chaine was the first person that sprung to mind when the time came. The 34-year-old said, “I ran so hard, but my body failed me.

Jomo Sono, a legend of the Orlando Pirates, once instructed the team to reissue the number 10 shirt that had been retired. Later, when it was proposed that Monnapule Saleng ought to receive the unique jersey, Sono appeared to have second thoughts.
