8 next Hibs manager candidates as Derek McInnes gets fan vote while Bournemouth link could be leaned on

Another Hibs manager bites the dust and it’s time to look at potential replacements again, less than eight months after this dance was last performed.

Nick Montgomery has been sent packing – a dismal 4-0 home hammering by Aberdeen proving to be the last straw for Ben Kensell, the Gordon Family and perhaps director of football Brian McDermott. Investor Bull Foley and his Black Knight group will also have been heavily involved. It’s not quite clear who would have made the final call. But it was made and the Easter Road club are now looking for their fifth permanent manager in little more than five years.

Derek McInnes

Foley’s involvement is a new variable on last time. The Bournemouth owner bought a 25 per cent stake in the Hibees, but the insistence is he won’t have an overall say in the running of the club, in order to satisfy the Scottish FA’s dual involvement regulations. But with £6million ploughed in (apparently to be spent on infrastructure but the need may be greater on the park) he’s going to want to give his tuppence worth.

So who’s next in the hot seat? The Hibs job will always hold superficial appeal; one of our biggest clubs based in the capital with a modern stadium and their own training ground.

But the high dugout churn, erratic recruitment and busy ownership structure will give candidates pause for thought. Record Sport looks at the runners and riders, from fans’ choices to more left field shouts. We’ve named eight below but also don’t discount Malky Mackay.
