This has been met with plenty of messages of support with Brazil discussing the matter on talkSPORT (16 May) and suggesting Antonio does what’s best for himself.

He said: “What I would suggest, he’s a Premier League footballer and I don’t know the ins and outs of his divorce which is difficult and it’s sad, but he’ll have a lot of money I’m pretty certain. So if football’s affecting your mental health, you’re not happy, it’s ruining your life then stop doing it.

“Just have a month off and go to a beach somewhere and have a think, forget football and chill. Think ‘What do I want to do in the next 30-40 years?’. That’s what I’d do.

“If he decides to call it a day, he’s had a brilliant time so quit and walk away and regroup. He doesn’t have to worry about his bills where many people who struggle with mental health do.

Should Michail Antonio have a break from West Ham United?

It is never nice to hear that someone is struggling with mental health especially when it is clear that it has been happening for some time.

The Conference League final win is a day that Hammers fans will never forget but is a day where Antonio’s struggles were amplified

The Jamaican international has been a great servant to West Ham since his move in 2015 from Nottingham Forest.

He has gone on to make over 300 appearances in East London while scoring 82 goals which sees him be the all-time Premier League scorer for the club.
