I think the player I’m most keen to see next season is Dennis Cirkin.
It’s not because he has to prove himself as such, but because he’ll be raring to go having missed so much football last season.
I imagine everybody will begin with a clean slate under the next head coach, but Cirkin certainly has enough about him to be a major asset if he can quickly recapture his previous form, and you could probably say the same for Niall Huggins.
He’s been another big miss and if the pair of them can avoid any more injuries, I’d say they have the potential to be able to play higher up the football pyramid.
Solid defensively and able to get up and down the pitch, they would both add to our options once they’re fully fit, and they’ll be eager to demonstrate their capabilities to the new regime as soon as possible.
Of those on the retained list, there are a number of players with points to prove, including Elliot Embleton, Patrick Roberts, Leo Hjelde and Luis Hemir, to name four.
Embleton needs to show that he’s fit enough to consistently deliver at this level. He may well be but the new head coach will have nothing to judge him on, so ‘stay fit, work hard and see what happens’ needs to be his mantra.

We may sell him, but if we don’t (which would keep some seniority within the squad) he needs to show why he deserves to keep the right wing berth over others who’ll be keen for a shot, such as Abdoullah Ba.
