Van Dijk embarrasses himself with Man United comments following the draw.

Following the 0-0 draw, Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk made a few comments that did not sit well with Manchester United fans.

With Manchester United coming into the game off the back of back-to-back defeats as well as elimination from the Champions League, the emphasis was on Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool to obtain a result at Anfield.

There were fears that Erik ten Hag would suffer the same fate as Jose Mourinho, who was fired following a poor performance at Anfield.

Despite their inability to produce chances on a consistent basis, Ten Hag’s Reds remained steadfast and deservedly deserved their point.

Van Dijk at Manchester United
Sky Sports interviewed Virgil Van Dijk after the dull draw at Anfield, and the Dutch defender was not pleased with how United performed.

“There was only one team trying to win the game but unfortunately it did not happen,” Van Dijk said in a statement.

“We were superior in all aspects, they were hoping to hurt us on the counter and they are buzzing with a point.”

This screams bitter grapes from the former Southampton defender, given the hosts were so bad throughout, save a few moments of quality, and failed to create many opportunities of their own.

Meanwhile, United had a few chances, with Rasmus Hojlund having the finest chance of the game, but the Dane couldn’t hold his cool and was denied by Alisson.

The Anfield club has a reputation of being irritated when a team does not set up in their preferred manner, but Ten Hag’s choice to stay back and allow the hosts to come onto them paid off in the end.

Liverpool’s anguish
To be honest, the Merseyside club were far from their best and struggled to break down a United team that had more than ten absentees for the encounter.

If Ten Hag had faced Klopp’s players, United would have been blown away, and the former Ajax manager would most likely be out of a job right now.

Ten Hag made the correct option, and if the Anfield club is upset with the way United is set up, the Dutchman can feel justified in his tactical move.
