'I love it here': Joyous McKenna pledges to take Ipswich party to Premier League | Championship | The Guardian

Ipswich Town are monitoring the managerial situation at Brighton as they wait to see if Carl Rushworth will be available, according to Darren Witcoop.

Ipswich Town are heading for the Premier League and they’ll be hopeful a fruitful summer transfer window gives them a good shot at staying there.

The Tractor Boys have a lot of work to do after their promotion glory. Kieran McKenna will be keen to show faith in the group that got them out the Championship, but having won promotion in back-to-back years, they must strengthen.

The goalkeeper position is one that looks set to be bolstered. Vaclav Hladky impressed in the 2023/24 campaign but it could be that a new no.1 comes through the doors.

Now, writing on X, it is said by Darren Witcoop that Ipswich Town are waiting on a decision over Carl Rushworth’s transfer fate.

Town are keeping an eye on the managerial situation at Brighton with that matter sure to have an impact on what next season brings for the recent Swansea City loan man.

If the door opens for him to move on, Ipswich could pounce. However, if the Seagulls want to keep Rushworth, the East Anglian outfit may have no choice but to look elsewhere.

Rushworth could be a great option in that respect. As a Brighton academy player, he should be more than used to becoming an outlet on the ball. That’s something he will have got used to at Swansea too.

It could be his first shot at Premier League game time, marking yet another step up.

Over the past three seasons, Rushworth has stepped up each year. He went from League Two with Walsall to the third-tier at Lincoln City before his most recent spell with Swansea City in the Championship, and now he could get a chance in the Premier League.

Wait and see

Ipswich Town will want to get business done early this summer. Giving McKenna as much time as possible to work with his new players will be of great value.

However, for now, it seems they don’t have much choice but to wait and see what comes of Brighton’s managerial situation. Until that matter is clarified, a decision over Rushworth’s future seems unlikely.

Even if a move is sanctioned, Ipswich will be unlikely to be the only ones after the 22-year-old.

He’s a talented goalkeeper with a bright future and whether a permanent or temporary exit is on the cards, he will have admirers that Town might have to fend off to bring him to Portman Road.
