Ex-Sheffield United, Middlesbrough and Leeds United boss seals management return after Huddersfield Town exit.
Neil Warnock, who formerly managed Sheffield United, Middlesbrough, and Leeds United, has been named Aberdeen’s new manager.
The managing veteran has been out of the game since his Huddersfield Town resignation was announced in September.
Having already detailed his preference for a short-term position, Warnock has landed the Aberdeen post on a contract that runs till the end of the season.
After signing at Pittodrie, Warnock stated: “I’m really looking forward to the challenge here in Aberdeen.”
“I’ve made no secret of my desire to manage in Scotland, so when Dave [Cormack, chairman] and Alan [Burrows, chief executive] invited me to assist out, it felt like the appropriate opportunity.
“By all accounts, there is a good group of guys here, and it is now my responsibility to get the most out of them.”
“Aberdeen is a big club with clear ambition and I’m hoping that during my time here the supporters will get behind the team and I can put a smile on their faces.”
Warnock has been joined at Aberdeen by his trusty lieutenant and long-time aide, Ronnie Jepson.
Aberdeen chairman Dave Cormack stated that Neil’s zeal for leading the club was palpable from the start. He has had an extraordinary managerial record, not only in terms of game volume and promotion wins, but also in terms of entering clubs on short notice and making an immediate impact.
“We look forward to Neil, Ronnie and the team pushing hard in the remaining four months of the campaign as we still have a huge amount to play for both in the SPFL Premiership and the Scottish Cup.”
While Warnock is in charge, Aberdeen plan to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the club’s operations.
The team is now tenth in the Scottish Premiership, having seen a period of decline under the recently fired Barry Robson.
