Leeds United are considering selling their “desperate” star for £25 million in January.
According to Football Insider, Leeds United are open to consider offers for Wilfried Gnonto in January in order to fill their winter transfer checkbook.
Gnonto impressed in the Whites’ Premier League campaign after joining for just £4 million on transfer deadline day in 2022. He appeared 24 times in the league.
In the Premier League, the Italian winger had two goals and four assists, including an assist to complete a 4-3 comeback against Bournemouth and a goal after only 55 seconds against fierce rivals Manchester United.
Following the Peacocks’ relegation to the Championship, there were doubts over whether the Italian International would stay at Elland Road, and when Everton came calling, the 20-year-old declined to play for the Yorkshire club in order to secure a move to Merseyside.
Since the window closed and Gnonto remained at West Yorkshire, Daniel Farke has given him just one start, with Gnonto coming off the bench in every game when he has been available. In this period, he has only provided one assist for Farke’s team, a worse return than in his first season in the Premier League.
It was recently revealed here at The Real EFL that Italian teams AS Roma and Lazio were interested in the out-of-favour prodigy, as well as Everton’s persistent love for a reported £25 million move.
According to games Insider, Leeds are open to a loan deal for the teenager, who is supposedly “desperate” to play regular first-team games again.
Gnonto was demoted to the Italian U21s squad while playing in the Championship after featuring thirteen times for the senior side.
With the European Championships approaching, Gnonto may be hoping that a string of first-team appearances and impressive performances would be enough to get him on the plane and into the Azzuri’s squad.
