Stefan Borson drops verdict on Amanda Staveley buying Tottenham stake
Amanda Staveley is unlikely to purchase a minority stake in Tottenham after only just leaving a position of power at Newcastle United.
That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider Staveley would likely only be handed a “very insignificant” role at Spurs if she were to invest in the club despite her previous work at St James’ Park.
Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi took a 10-per-cent stake in Newcastle after helping Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) secure their £305million takeover of the club in 2021.
The husband and wife have been instrumental in the day-to-day running of the north-east giants since the takeover was completed, but it has now been confirmed they have left the club this summer.
Bloomberg reported on 18 July Staveley is now exploring taking a stake in Tottenham after recently raising about £500million through her investment fund PCP Capital Partners.

But Borson points out Spurs have “very significant” expectations on the value of the club compared to what Staveley and PIF paid for Newcastle.
“But they have very significant expectations on value, probably something like eight-to-nine times what Staveley and PIF paid for Newcastle.
“I think it’s pretty unlikely that she’s come out of Newcastle at whatever valuation she has, where she was clearly very influential and is just going to accept a very insignificant role at Spurs.”
