West Ham are more likely to sign £25m player than Newcastle
West Ham and Newcastle are both in the market for a new centre-back this summer. Both clubs are being linked to similar players such as Jean-Clair Todibo.
With both Newcastle and West Ham hoping to get back into the European mix next season, they’re fishing in similar sorts of ponds in the transfer market at the moment.
Newcastle have been linked with a move for Fikayo Tomori recently, as have West Ham, and according to Ben Jacobs, speaking on NUFC Matters, there’s a clear leader in this transfer race.
Indeed, according to the journalist, West Ham are more ones to watch in this race ahead of Newcastle.
West Ham more likely to sign Fikayo Tomori than Newcastle
Jacobs shared what he knows about the man and the two interested parties in the Premier League.
“What is the latest on Malick Thiaw and Fikayo Tomori as Newcastle have been linked with both?” Jacobs was asked.
“I think with the Tomori situation, I’m told West Ham are more the ones to watch there at the moment,” Jacobs said.
Fikayo Tomori already has a friend at Newcastle
West Ham may be ahead of Newcastle in the race to sign Tomori, but the player himself may be more keen on a move to Tyneside.
Indeed, not only are Newcastle further ahead in their project than West Ham, they also have a player who is already close friends with Tomori.
Sandro Tonali is someone Tomori is already very close with. The defender spoke highly of the midfielder last season ahead of his match against Newcastle.
“Obviously it will be nice to see him again. We played many games together. It will be nice to see him again so soon after his departure. However, we are professionals, when the game starts friendship doesn’t exist,” Tomori said.
“We want to win, after the game we can start being friends again. During the game we are not friends.”
West Ham and Newcastle are going head to head to sign Tomori, and the AC Milan star may well return to the Premier League this summer.
