Manchester United are in the process of a huge squad rebuild as new co-owners INEOS look to make an impact in the ongoing summer transfer window. INEOS, spearheaded by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, have already shown intent by signing players such as Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro.
The Red Devils are now turning their attention to other incomings, and despite signing a new center-forward in Zirkzee, it looks like they want another one in the building before the transfer window slams shut.
According to a report from GIVEMESPORT, Manchester United could consider making a move for Brentford star Ivan Toney if his valuation drops below £40million.
Ivan Toney, 28, will be a free agent at the end of next season and is showing no desire to sign a new deal at Brentford. This means the current transfer window offers the Bees the best opportunity to get a sizeable fee for him. The England international’s current situation at the west London club has prompted several clubs to try and snap him up on a cut-price deal.
Man United are one of those clubs trying to lure the striker away from Brentford. The Thomas Frank-managed club is resigned to losing Toney, who is eyeing a lucrative contract worth up to £250,000 per week at a new club.
He currently earns £20,000 per week at the GTech stadium. Despite being wary of the 28-year-old’s wage demands, the Red Devils have held talks over a potential summer swoop.
Toney has entered the final year of his Brentford deal off the back of a fine summer, helping England to the Euro 2024 final. At 28, the ex-Newcastle United man is at the prime stages of his career, and having bagged 36 goals in 85 Premier League appearances, he would be a strong addition to the Red Devils’ attacking force.
It remains to be seen if Man United enter into concrete talks with Brentford for Toney. As time passes by in the transfer window, chances of his valuation dropping down will become higher as the Bees would loathe to lose their star striker on a free transfer in the summer of 2025.
