Sheffield United won the South Yorkshire derby this afternoon at the New York Stadium with both sides taking the chance of looking at different playing staff.
Rotherham United started with Johnson Clarke-Harris wearing the captains armband making his first start since joining in the summer and Sheffield United starting with former Miller Kieffer Moore up front with the referee being Darren Drysdale.
It was the Blades who had an early chance with Gustavo Hamer getting a shot away which was easy for Dillon Phillips in the Millers goal. A Cameron Humphreys throw-in was put out for another which Joe Rafferty took finding Jordan Hugill who won the first corner of the game which Ollie Rathbone took and was cleared by Moore but only as far as Rathbone who won another corner
which was cleared. A good run from Moore saw the ball end up with Hamer who got free of his marker to get a shot away which brought off a good save from the Millers ‘keeper with the resulting corner coming to nothing. A ball over the top found Moore and after a few Blades players had touches the ball went out of a corner which Oliver Arblaster took finding the head of Vini Souza who headed home. Clarke-Harris won a free-kick which Rathbone swung in finding the head of Humphreys, the ball finding Sam Nombe who lost out to a Blades defender
before he could do anything with it the visitors countering down the other end of the pitch the ball ending with Moore who sent the ball across goal and wide. On eighteen minutes the Blades were forced into a change when Jamie Shackleton came off the worst in an even challenge being replace by Femi
Seriki who was on loan at the New York Stadium last season. The former Miller was soon in the action and had a chance which he put wide. Rathbone did well to force Arblaster back after some nice football from the visitors before Seriki had half a shout for a penalty going down under Zak Jules but it was a bit soft and wasn’t given. Anel Ahmedhodzic manhandled Nombe but nothing was given before Andre Brooks sent in a lovely ball for Moore to head but he saw the ball come off the post to Christ Tiehi who got it away. Alblaster
